Front-load washing machines, including Bosch models, are susceptible to mold and mildew growth in the rubber door gasket if not properly maintained. This advisory provides guidance on preventing mold issues that can affect wash quality and produce unpleasant odors.
Affected Models
All Bosch front-load washers — 300, 500, and 800 Series. This is a design characteristic of all front-load washers, not a Bosch-specific defect.
Prevention Steps
- Wipe the door gasket with a dry cloth after every wash
- Leave the door slightly ajar between loads to allow air circulation
- Run the drum clean cycle every 4-6 weeks
- Do not leave wet laundry in the drum for extended periods
- Use HE (High Efficiency) detergent only — excess suds promote mold
If Mold Is Already Present
Clean the gasket with a mixture of equal parts water and white vinegar. For severe mold, use a diluted bleach solution (1 tablespoon per quart of water). If mold has penetrated deep into the gasket rubber and cannot be cleaned, the gasket should be replaced.
Urgency Level
Routine maintenance advisory. Implement prevention steps immediately.
