Bosch Refrigerator Compressor Overheating — Older Models

Bosch refrigerators older than 10 years may experience compressor overheating due to condenser coil contamination. Dust, pet hair, and kitchen grease accumulate on the condenser coils, reducing their ability to dissipate heat.

Affected Models

All Bosch refrigerators, particularly models older than 10 years. Models with rear-mounted condenser coils are most susceptible.

Symptoms

  • Refrigerator runs continuously without cycling off
  • Compressor area (rear bottom) is very hot to touch
  • Clicking sounds as the compressor overheats and trips its thermal protector
  • Error code E11 (compressor failure) on newer models with electronic controls

Recommended Action

Vacuum or brush the condenser coils every 6 months. Ensure at least 2 inches of clearance behind and on the sides of the refrigerator for airflow. If the compressor continues to overheat after cleaning, schedule a professional inspection — the compressor may be failing.

Urgency Level

Moderate — clean coils promptly. High if compressor is clicking repeatedly (potential failure imminent).
